How Bench Warrants Work in Lampasas County
“Bench warrant” is common shorthand for court-directed arrest process after a missed appearance or other noncompliance. In Lampasas County, the case type points to the likely court: city fine-only citations stay with a municipal court, Class C and traffic matters with a JP, county misdemeanors with County Court, and felony or family cases with the 27th District Court.
A family contempt matter is not the same as a traffic FTA. The office that set the case can say whether an order issued and what hearing, motion, or payment path applies.
Lampasas County Missed Court Warrant Route
Before traveling, match the court name, precinct, city, and cause number on the paper notice. A missed JP setting in Lometa may belong to grouped JP2/3, while a city ticket there may be in Lometa Municipal Court. The town alone does not identify the issuer.
Call the clerk and ask whether the case is marked FTA, whether a capias or arrest warrant was issued, and whether a reset or personal appearance is required. If the answer is unclear, the county Justice page lists the four precinct channels.
The official Justice Court page presents the county's contact grouping.
Use the court printed on the citation, not a nearby office with a similar phone number.
Bench Warrant Issuance in Lampasas County
The issuing judge or magistrate directs the process. It may follow a missed setting, a failure to respond, contempt, or noncompliance with a court order. The record stays with the court that owns the case; Lampasas County does not publish one public database that gathers every such order.
A city or JP clerk may show a payment or form page, but not a live warrant result. The Sheriff may handle service or custody questions, while the issuing court decides whether to recall, reset, or change the order.
JP2/3 and JP4 Warrant Contacts Differ
The grouped JP2/3 office is listed in Lometa at 104 N. Fourth Street with phone 512-752-3497. JP4 is at 315 Pecan Street in Kempner and uses 512-932-2182. JP1 is at 501 E. Fourth Street in Lampasas and uses 512-564-1845. These are separate justice courts, even where city names or roads overlap.
The county's precinct contact page includes the current public routes. It does not publish a warrant search, warrant-only walk-in schedule, or recall fee.
The JP1 page shows a separate clerk and form channel.
Tell the clerk which precinct appears on the citation before asking about a reset.
How Bench and Arrest Warrants Differ
A bench or FTA process follows a court obligation. An arrest warrant follows a probable-cause process under Texas Code of Criminal Procedure Chapter 15. A capias pro fine is different again because it follows an unsatisfied judgment. The word “warrant” alone does not tell a reader which court action is needed.
| Feature | Bench Warrant | Arrest Warrant |
|---|---|---|
| Trigger | Missed appearance or court noncompliance | Sworn facts supporting probable cause |
| Who issues it | Judge handling the existing case | Authorized judge or magistrate |
| Underlying case | Case already before the court | New or charged offense |
| Next question | Reset, recall, hardship, or appearance | Issuer, bond, counsel, and service status |
Capias Pro Fine Has Chapter 45A Safeguards
Texas Chapter 45A governs current justice and municipal procedure. A capias pro fine is tied to an unsatisfied judgment and must state the amount due. The law includes an undue-hardship hearing process and allows a court to recall the capias after notice and a voluntary appearance with a good-faith effort to resolve the judgment.
Those protections apply to the fine-collection process; they do not promise that every missed court date can be handled by walking in without arrest. Ask the issuing JP or municipal court which process was issued and what action is required.
Read the current Chapter 45A text with the court's case-specific instructions.
The law separates a judgment-related capias from every pre-judgment FTA event.
Clearing a Bench Warrant in Lampasas County
Call the issuing clerk before paying or appearing. Ask for the document type, current status, next setting, amount due, and whether counsel, a motion, or a personal appearance is required. A bond amount is case-specific; Lampasas County did not publish a universal warrant-bond schedule.
- Confirm which court issued the process and whether it is still active.
- Ask about a reset, recall motion, payment, hardship hearing, or voluntary appearance.
- For a serious arrest or family matter, consult a lawyer before surrender.
- Keep the order or receipt and ask when the Sheriff or DPS record will update.
Caution: Do not assume a phone call, payment screen, or portal result recalls a warrant; get confirmation from the issuing court.
The $50 Warrant Cost Is Not a Bond
Texas Chapter 102 includes a $50 execution or processing cost for an arrest warrant, capias, or capias pro fine when statutory conditions apply. Lampasas city materials also describe a $50 warrant fee in a served or processed citation context. A processing cost is not a local bond amount, and the research found no county bond schedule.
Ask the clerk to label every amount: bond, fine, court cost, capias amount, or execution fee. The county's Sheriff and constable fee table covers civil service charges and should not be used to estimate a criminal warrant payment.
Chapter 45A provides the current capias-pro-fine route.
Lampasas County Courts That Issue Bench Warrants
The 27th District Court handles district criminal and family matters; County Court handles county misdemeanor cases; JP1, JP2/3, and JP4 handle assigned justice-court matters; Lampasas, Kempner, and Lometa Municipal Courts handle their city dockets. The Sheriff may serve the order, but the issuing court controls recall.
For district settings, the District Court page lists coordinator Dee Ann Crawford at 512-556-8271 extension 308. The County Clerk says its office does not perform public searches, so give it a specific cause or document request. If the court is uncertain, use the official Texas court directory to identify the correct clerk.
No Lampasas County Walk-In Recall Rule
The research did not locate a county warrant window, standard walk-in surrender hours, or a promise that appearing at 1210 Barnes avoids arrest. The jail and magistrate courtroom are there, but that does not make the Sheriff the office that can recall every court order.
Call the issuer first. Ask what documents to bring, whether counsel is advised, and how the court will confirm that the process is recalled. Do not infer a recall from a payment receipt alone.
